Avatar® helps Orlando keep national ranking in housing poll; Orlando the highest ranked Florida MSA in the survey

ORLANDO, FL---Builder-developer Avatar® Properties Inc. played a major role in the Orlando MSA being ranked the nation’s 14th largest housing market in 2007 by accounting for 3.3 percent of the market’s 18,646 building permits and posting 619 closings.

Builder magazine’s annual survey of the nation’s Top 50 housing markets ranked Avatar® 5th in the Orlando MSA (Metropolitan Statistical Area) which encompasses Orange, Seminole, Osceola and Lake counties.

Avatar® recorded the permits in its communities of Poinciana, Solivita®, BellalagoSM, and the Isles of BellalagoSM.  Poinciana, which covers approximately 47,000 acres in northwest Osceola and northeast Polk counties, includes primary housing as well as its award-winning active adult community of Solivita®.  BellalagoSM sits alongside Lake Tohopekaliga and the Isles of BellalagoSM.

Orlando was the highest ranked Florida MSA and one of only five Florida markets in the survey.  Builders in each market were ranked by number of permits.

Sources for the annual survey were Hanley Wood Market Intelligence, owned by Hanley Wood, LLC, publisher of Builder, the official publication of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB).  The Top 50 markets were determined based on the number of single-family permits issued during 2007.  MSAs were determined by using Federal Office of Management and Budget geographic boundaries as a foundation.

Avatar® Properties Inc. is a wholly owned subsidiary of Coral Gables-based Avatar® Holdings Inc., a publicly-held company that is primarily engaged in real estate operations in Florida and Arizona. Avatar® common shares trade on The NASDAQ Stock Market LLC under the symbol AVTR.
