Solivita’s® Palms lifestyle center earns two Aurora Awards

POINCIANA, FL---The Palms lifestyle center at Solivita®, recent winner of a 50+ Housing Award from the National Association of Home Builders 50+ Housing Council, earned two more prestigious honors at the 27th annual Aurora Awards which capped off the 2008 Southeast Building Conference in Orlando.

The Palms earned Aurora Awards for Best Recreational Facility/Community Clubhouse and  Best Landscape/Pool Design for a Residential Development in a competition that annually recognizes the best new construction and design in twelve Southeastern states.

“The Palms is a special place where residents can enjoy social interaction and a wide variety of recreational activities in a 5-star, resort-like setting,” said John Corners, vice president of  administration/lifestyles for Avatar Properties Inc., developer of the award-winning active adult community within the 47,000-acre master-planned community Poinciana.

“The awards are a testament to the creative planning and design that went into conceiving an outstanding amenity center that meets and exceeds the extraordinary lifestyle we’ve made available to our residents,” Corners said.

Centerpiece for the 4.66-acre complex is a 20,000 sq. ft. Old World Mediterranean-style clubhouse that was laid out in a series of separate but connected rooms intended to appear as built over time as a sequence of additions with slightly different materials and methods of construction.

Designed by The Evans Group of Orlando, the clubhouse includes a state-of-the-art fitness center with open-beamed ceiling and 38 pieces of cardiovascular and strength training equipment, a 3,200 sq. ft. aerobics center with tongue and groove wood floor, residents’ business center with high-speed Internet access and copy and fax services, members’ club room with large-screen plasma TV and baby grand piano, catering/staging kitchen, and a large multi-purpose room.

To provide unobstructed views to preserved wetlands, the clubhouse embraces on three sides a host of outdoor amenities that include a 4,000 sq. ft. heated lap and splash pool, two heated whirlpool spas, two lighted Har-Tru championship tennis courts, two lighted boccie courts, four lighted pickle-ball courts, a fireplace piazza, social gathering deck, and a large pavered deck illuminated for nighttime use and events.

The Palms complements a host of other amenities at the award-winning active adult community  being developed  around a Mediterranean-style Village Center highlighted by the 32,000 sq. ft. Riviera Spa & Fitness Center, the 17,000 sq. ft. Starlite Ballroom, three restaurants, and the Waterfront Galleries where residents can participate in classes in sculpture, calligraphy, ceramics, crafts, pottery, stained glass, watercolor, and more.

Adjacent to the Village Center is Freedom Park which includes five lighted tennis courts, five lighted pickle-ball courts, and a championship caliber softball diamond.  There are two additional lighted tennis courts in the community’s Venezia neighborhood.

Located just 21 miles south of Walt Disney World® in Orlando, Solivita® encompasses 4,300 acres punctuated by lakes, wooded nature preserves, two 18-hole championship golf courses at The Stonegate Golf Club, and a dozen residential neighborhoods of Tuscan-style single-family homes.

Solivita® currently offers 19 detached single-family home plans in five collections at base prices from the $130s to the $330s, and four attached single-family home plans in The Courtyards at Montelena at base prices from the low $200s.  Seventeen furnished models are featured in the community’s model home parks.
